Job description

About the Role

Lincoln House Surgery is seeking an experienced and confident Lead Practice Nurse on a full time basis, which will include one late evening clinic (10am–6pm).

We can only consider applicants with current GP Surgery experience who can hit the ground running from day one to join us. This is NOT a role for someone new to general practice.

We are looking for a nurse with solid experience in a GP surgery/primary care setting, who is already competent and confident in the day-to-day responsibilities of a Practice Nurse and can provide leadership to an established team.

If you enjoy leading others while continuing hands‑on clinical work and want to make a real impact in a supportive, forward‑thinking surgery, we’d love to hear from you.

You will provide excellent patient care while taking a key leadership role within the nursing team, helping ensure high standards, compliance and smooth day‑to‑day operations.

You will be expected to confidently manage a broad range of General Practice nursing duties including:

  • Adult and childhood vaccination and immunisation programmes
  • Travel vaccinations and travel health advice
  • Cervical cytology (smears)
  • Health assessments and new patient checks
  • Hypertension management and reviews
  • Asthma, COPD and Diabetes clinics/reviews
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Long‑term condition management
  • Medication reviews and treatment monitoring
  • Family planning support
  • Health promotion and preventative care
  • Phlebotomy, ECGs and treatment room procedures
  • Opportunistic care and patient education
  • Leadership and management responsibilities

As Lead Nurse, you will help shape and support the nursing team through:

  • Day‑to‑day clinical leadership and supervision
  • Managing nursing team rotas and clinical cover
  • Supporting staff development, mentorship and appraisals
  • Monitoring staff competencies and training requirements
  • Managing and supporting staff absence processes
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are followed
  • Acting as a role model for excellent clinical standards
  • Supporting recruitment, induction and team development
  • Governance, Compliance & Quality

You will also take ownership of:

  • Leading on Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
  • Supporting and maintaining CQC compliance
  • Leading audits and quality improvement projects
  • Developing and reviewing clinical policies
  • Ensuring nursing team compliance and standards are maintained
  • Maintaining accurate records and evidence gathering

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should sufficient applications be received.

About the Candidate

We are looking for someone who is experienced, proactive and able to confidently integrate into an established team. You will have the following:

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC PIN
  • Minimum 3 years' post-registration experience in a GP Surgery/Primary Care setting
  • General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme (or equivalent experience)
  • Current experience delivering adult and childhood immunisations
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

You must be experienced in:

  • Adult and childhood immunisations
  • Asthma, COPD and Diabetes reviews
  • Travel vaccinations and advice
  • Cervical cytology (smears)
  • Long‑term condition management
  • Treatment room skills and chronic disease reviews
  • Leading on Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
  • Managing staff competencies, training and absence oversight
  • Supporting and supervising nursing team performance

Desirable:

  • Previous Lead Practice Nurse or supervisory experience
  • Spirometry qualification
  • Experience leading audits and IPC
  • Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can bring energy, confidence and leadership and become a key member of the team immediately.
