Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Team with hybrid work across our North and Midlands offices (Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester). You will lead mechanical design on wastewater and water infrastructure projects, driving site surveys, pump system design, and P&ID development.

You will collaborate with discipline teams nationwide, manage bids, and mentor junior staff while ensuring outputs meet international design standards and project budgets.

Qualifications

• Lead and review the mechanical design of wastewater and water infra projects.
• Site surveys and liaison with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Designs of pumping stations, headloss calculations and pump selection.

Responsibilities

• Lead design across feasibility, outline, detail and construction stages.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver robust solutions.
• Mentor junior staff and oversee workstreams.
