Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of mechanical elements for water and wastewater infrastructure across the UK. You will conduct site surveys, support client liaison, and drive pumping station design, headloss analyses and component selection from screens to valves.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and help shape AECOM's digital design tools while delivering compliant, high-quality drawings and technical reports.

Qualifications

• Lead and review mechanical design for water and wastewater projects.
• Experience in pumping stations and headloss/pump system analysis.
• Ability to specify pumps, screens, grit removal and valves.
• Produce technical specifications, datasheets and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and review mechanical design for water infrastructure projects.
• Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Design pumping stations and perform headloss calculations and analyses.
• Select pumps, design screens, grit removal, penstocks and valves.
• Address odour control, layouts and piping for plant areas.
• Prepare WIMES datasheets, valve schedules and P&ID documentation.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and mentor junior staff.
• Lead bid support and interface with clients to capture requirements.
• Ensure timely delivery within budgets and standards; review client deliverables.
