Job summary

WSP is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and piping projects in process industries. Based mainly in office with some site assignments, the role requires delivering technical solutions, supervising teams, and coordinating across disciplines.

You will oversee design, calculations, data sheets and specifications, support construction and commissioning, and ensure compliance with ASME/BS EN codes.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design engineering in process industries.
• Experience designing process plant piping for pharmaceuticals, food, and fine chemicals industries.
• Experience in contracting industries or a process plant operator would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of CAD and 3D modelling software
• Pipe Stress Analysis (Caesar II or equivalent)
• Pipe support design and specification
• Piping design codes e.g. ASME B31.3/BSEN13480
• PER/ATEX/CDM
• Construction site experience on process industry projects
• Experience managing/co-ordinating design and engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects, controlling technical delivery, costs, changes and programme
• Design, engineering, calculations, specifications
• Assist with flowsheets and engineering line diagrams
• Supervise plant layout and pipework design including 3D modelling
• Prepare data sheets, piping and equipment specifications, technical appraisals
• Site support during construction and commissioning
• Design studies, safety reviews, Designers Risk Assessments
• Coordinate with other disciplines
• Prepare cost estimates
• Prepare and maintain man-hour/resources forecasts
• Input to design programmes
• Review designs & proposals for conformance with standards
• Comply with quality and safety procedures
• Line management of graduate engineers
