Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead complex mechanical designs for UK water and wastewater projects. Based in the Northern region with flexible working, you will set technical direction, governance standards and mentor engineers across the business.

You will review calculations and drawings, balance cost, quality and schedule, support major bids, liaise with clients and suppliers, and ensure designs are safe, buildable and compliant while promoting innovation

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/MEng) required.
• Significant experience delivering mechanical designs within UK water/wastewater sector.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering design projects.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Chartered Engineer status desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate delivery of complex mechanical designs in water/wastewater projects.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
• Develop innovative, practical, risk-balanced engineering solutions.
• Ensure designs are safe, sustainable, compliant, buildable and commercially effective.
• Produce, review and approve mechanical design calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.
• Support major project bids and contribute to delivery strategies.
• Act as technical reviewer and uphold governance and quality standards.
• Manage technical delivery from briefs, balancing programme, cost, quality and resources.
• Identify and manage technical risks and escalate as needed.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers to deliver outcomes.
• Support and mentor engineers to strengthen technical capability.
