Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is recruiting for a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer in Ayr. You will assess heavy vehicle applications for first tests and conversions, ensuring compliance with DVSA standards and legislation.

You will support non-technical teams, advise operators and manufacturers, and work with policy colleagues on new requirements while contributing to safer, compliant vehicle testing across the network.

Qualifications

• Experience assessing heavy vehicle statutory test applications.
• Ability to provide technical advice to non-technical teams.
• Strong collaborative leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Undertake assessment of applications of approved vehicles via the ECWVTA teams.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and advise front line staff, operators and others on DVSA services.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external customers to understand their requirements and respond via the technical inbox.
• Provide support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager, representing DVSA at trade events and performing ad hoc tasks.
• Maintain relevant databases as required.
