Job summary

The Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer role at Government Recruitment Service sits within the Vehicle Services leadership team, delivering expert assessment of complex vehicle applications to ensure compliance with DVSA standards and legislation.

You will support processing teams, advise operators and manufacturers, and contribute to ongoing improvements in safety and efficiency across the vehicle testing network.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate ability to assess complex heavy vehicle applications for regulatory compliance.
• Experience delivering technical assessments and advisory support to front line teams.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical requirements to diverse audiences.
• Ability to identify risks and collaborate on improvements within DVSA standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for first test and conversions, checking reports and documentation.
• Assess applications of ECWVTA-approved vehicles.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and advise frontline staff, operators, manufacturers and others.
• Investigate possible solutions to address issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and standards when regulatory changes occur.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external customers to ensure understanding and accurate responses.
• Support the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager and represent DVSA at trade events.
• Maintain relevant databases as required.
