Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking an Environmental Engineer to lead the environmental function across a major infrastructure programme in Manchester. The role requires ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, permits and company standards while providing expert risk guidance.

You will support project teams in implementing SHE management and environmental controls, collaborate with regulators, and drive improvements in sustainability, reporting and supply chain performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of environmental management experience.
• Experience obtaining environmental permits and working with regulatory authorities.
• Strong knowledge of water management, pollution prevention and monitoring.
• Degree or NVQ Level 6+ in Environmental Science/Management or related field.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence operational teams and drive best practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental function across a major infrastructure programme.
• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits and standards.
• Provide expert advice on environmental risk management and water management.
• Support project teams in SHE Management System and environmental controls.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to secure permits and maintain compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and reporting.
• Lead environmental incident investigations and communicate lessons learned.
• Analyse environmental data and produce reports to support project performance.
• Develop environmental assurance programmes, including inspections and audits.
• Lead onboarding and performance management of supply chain partners.
