Job summary

Rubicon Consulting is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to lead environmental management across major UK infrastructure projects. You will provide expert environmental advice to project teams, ensure compliance with legislation, permits and commitments, and lead the Environmental Management team.

This UK-wide role requires regular travel and covering projects across the country, with hybrid working on site in Staffordshire and beyond.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in environmental management, preferably with a main contractor.
• Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in the Power, Transmission and Distribution sector.
• Experience leading and developing environmental teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Environmental Management team, including Environmental Advisors and Technicians.
• Implement and maintain the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Ensure project teams understand and follow environmental requirements and plans.
• Maintain environmental registers, impacts, aspects and legal requirements.
• Manage and update the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).
• Plan and oversee environmental inspections, audits and monitoring programmes.
• Investigate environmental issues and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Manage environmental permits, consents and approvals with clients, designers and regulators.
• Provide environmental input into design, RAMS and HAZID processes to reduce risks.
• Lead response to significant environmental incidents and support investigations.
• Develop and deliver environmental training, communications and awareness programmes.
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and regulators (Environment Agency, SEPA, Local Authorities).
• Prepare and oversee environmental performance reports.
• Support sustainability initiatives and improvements across projects.
• Promote best practice and continuous improvement in environmental management.
• Provide environmental support and incident investigation assistance to other projects when required.
• Deputise for Head of Environment & Sustainability when required.
