Job summary

Amour Recruitment is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer for a Portsmouth-based role with regular travel to customer sites. You will lead the delivery, operation and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware environments, guiding data centres, labs and office infrastructure with a focus on governance and resilience.

You'll mentor teams, drive continuous improvement, and manage complex hardware projects while maintaining security and regulatory compliance across multiple environments.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering and data centre operations.
• Deep knowledge of server, storage and networking technologies.
• Proven ability to manage infrastructure projects and lead technical teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of security, governance and compliance.
• Able to balance strategic planning with hands-on delivery.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience in secure, regulated or high-assurance environments preferred.
• Industry certifications in ITIL, CCNA/CCNP, VMware, or vendor platforms are desirable.
• Ability to obtain UK security clearance if required.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery, operation and lifecycle management of physical IT infrastructure.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, processes and best practices.
• Oversee hardware deployment, operation, maintenance and decommissioning.
• Provide technical leadership across data centres, labs and office setups.
• Manage infrastructure projects and hardware refresh programs.
• Ensure security, governance and risk management compliance.
• Support resilience, capacity planning and business continuity.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams.
• Drive continuous improvement across infrastructure systems.
