Job summary

Amour Recruitment is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer for a Portsmouth-based role with regular travel to customer sites. You will lead the delivery, operation and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware environments, guiding data centres, labs and office infrastructure with a focus on governance and resilience.

You'll mentor teams, drive continuous improvement, and manage complex hardware projects while maintaining security and regulatory compliance across multiple environments.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering and data centre operations.
• Deep knowledge of server, storage and networking technologies.
• Proven ability to manage infrastructure projects and lead technical teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of security, governance and compliance.
• Able to balance strategic planning with hands-on delivery.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience in secure, regulated or high-assurance environments preferred.
• Industry certifications in ITIL, CCNA/CCNP, VMware, or vendor platforms are desirable.
• Ability to obtain UK security clearance if required.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior infrastructure professional to play a leading role in the delivery, operation and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware environments. You'll provide technical leadership across data centres, build labs and office infrastructure, ensuring engineering standards, governance and operational excellence are maintained at all times. Supported by a highly skilled team, you'll be responsible for driving continuous improvement whilst delivering excellent outcomes for both internal and customer environments.

Responsibilities:

Requirements:

• Significant experience within enterprise infrastructure engineering, hardware lifecycle management or data centre operations.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise server, storage and networking technologies.
• Experience managing infrastructure projects and leading technical teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security, compliance and governance.
• Ability to combine strategic planning with hands-on technical delivery.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience within secure, regulated or high-assurance environments would be advantageous.
• Industry certifications such as ITIL, CCNA/CCNP, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo or Cisco would be highly desirable.
• Ability to obtain UK security clearances if required.
