Job summary

Amour Recruitment is recruiting for a Principal Hardware Engineer based in Portsmouth with regular travel to customer sites. You will lead delivery, operation and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware environments across data centres, labs and office infrastructure.

The role combines strategic planning with hands-on delivery, setting engineering standards, governance and security. You will mentor teams and drive continuous improvement in a highly technical, high-security environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering.
• Experience in secure, regulated environments is advantageous.
• Certifications in ITIL, CCNA/CCNP, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo or Cisco desirable.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

Amour Recruitment are pleased to be recruiting for an experienced Principal Hardware Engineer on behalf of our client based at Portsmouth, with regular travel to customer sites.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior infrastructure professional to play a leading role in the delivery, operation and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware environments. You'll provide technical leadership across data centres, build labs and office infrastructure, ensuring engineering standards, governance and operational excellence are maintained at all times. Supported by a highly skilled team, you'll be responsible for driving continuous improvement whilst delivering excellent outcomes for both internal and customer environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery, operation and lifecycle management of physical IT infrastructure.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, processes and best practices.
• Oversee hardware deployment, operation, maintenance and decommissioning activities.
• Provide technical leadership across data centres, build labs and office environments.
• Manage infrastructure projects, hardware refresh programmes and large-scale deployments.
• Ensure compliance with security, governance and risk management requirements.
• Support infrastructure resilience, capacity planning and business continuity initiatives.
• Work closely with customers, suppliers and senior stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Mentor and support engineering teams, promoting high-performance working practices.
• Drive continuous improvement across infrastructure systems and processes.

Requirements

• Significant experience within enterprise infrastructure engineering, hardware lifecycle management or data centre operations.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise server, storage and networking technologies.
• Experience managing infrastructure projects and leading technical teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security, compliance and governance.
• Ability to combine strategic planning with hands-on technical delivery.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience within secure, regulated or high-assurance environments would be advantageous.
• Industry certifications such as ITIL, CCNA/CCNP, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo or Cisco would be highly desirable.
• Ability to obtain UK security clearances if required.
