Job summary
SSEN Transmission is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to own and refine technical specs for substations, ensuring compliance with national and European standards. The role involves collaboration with Civil, LV/MV, Cables and Overhead Lines teams and supporting design reviews as part of the Technical Authority.
Based in Scotland, you will contribute to a Net Zero network and engage with industry groups. A Chartered Engineer status or progress towards it is preferred, with a strong focus on
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with Chartered Engineer status or active progress towards it.
- Strong experience in design, specification and application of transmission voltage substations.
- Familiarity with SSE Transmission, National Grid, British and European Standards; experience writing technical specs or guidance.
- Exposure to design, manufacture, testing, installation or maintenance of transmission voltage plant and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain technical specifications and guidance notes for substation designs.
- Continually improve specifications based on lessons learned and new technologies.
- Collaborate with Civil, LV/MV, Cables and Overhead Lines engineering teams.
- Support the Design Authority as part of the Technical Authority for design reviews.
- Represent SSEN Transmission at industry events and mentor peers.
