Job summary

Platform Housing Group's Platform Property Care is seeking a Lead Engineer – Carpentry to join our Birmingham team. You will deliver carpentry repairs in customers' homes and communal areas, while coaching colleagues and promoting best practice across our teams.

The role combines hands-on trade work (70–80%) with mentoring, audits, and developing apprentices. Applicants require NVQ Level 2/City & Guilds 2 in Carpentry, relevant experience in social housing, a full driving licence, and DBS

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2/City & Guilds Level 2 in Carpentry or equivalent
• Additional Trade qualifications desired
• Significant experience as a Carpenter in the building trade
• Experience in occupied domestic properties
• Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements
• Experience recording job details using mobile devices
• Good IT and digital skills
• Ability to coach, support and develop colleagues
• Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
• Experience in social housing/housing association
• Previous coaching, mentoring or assessor experience
• Full valid driving licence essential
• DBS check required
• Role covers Birmingham with a max one-hour commute

Responsibilities

• Carry out carpentry repairs in customers' homes and communal areas
• Manage jobs from inspection through to completion with strong customer service
• Coach and mentor colleagues and assess competence
• Support apprentices and End Point Assessments
• Promote trade standards and best practice across platforms Property Care
• Work with Learning & Development teams on training initiatives
• Conduct trade audits and quality assessments
• Act as technical escalation point for carpentry queries
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
