Job summary

Hill Care Ltd is seeking a Chef / Cook to organize and control the efficient production of quality meals within budget, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations. You'll prepare hot and cold meals, accommodate dietary requirements, and liaise with the Home Manager on menus.

You will manage staff rosters, train kitchen staff, and ensure Health and Safety compliance across the kitchen and dining areas.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 706 - 1 & 2 or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards).
  • Basic Food / Hygiene Certificate.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as required.
  • Provide for special dietary requirements and client preferences.
  • Liaise with the Home Manager when planning / costing menus for a balanced diet.
  • Arrange / participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of food supplies and freezer/fridge temperatures.
  • Ensure stock rotation; order stocks and check deliveries and value stock.
  • Prepare Staff rota for Kitchen.
  • Interview for new Staff Members with the Home Manager as required.
  • Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff in equipment and hygiene procedures.
  • Conduct basic food hygiene training for Care Staff involved in handling and delivery of food.
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as required.
  • Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored, and that cleaning of the kitchen and dining areas is carried out effectively.
  • Report illness or accident to the Home Manager or Person in Charge.
  • Understand and implement the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture or hazards to the Home Manager or Handyperson.
  • Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.
  • Promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information gained in duty.
  • Notify the Home Manager or Person in Charge of any absences and on return to duty.
  • Ensure the security of the Care Centre at all times.
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned to you.

Education

City & Guilds 706 - 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)
