Job summary

Hill Care Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking a Chef / Cook to organise and control the efficient and economical production of quality meals, while maintaining high hygiene standards in line with regulations.

The role requires compiling menus, planning and costing with the Home Manager, and providing nutritious options for clients with dietary needs. The post also involves supervising kitchen staff and ensuring a safe, clean, compliant kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds 706-1 & 2 or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)
• Basic Food / Hygiene Certificate
• Good communication skills
• Team player
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
• Intermediate Food / Hygiene Certificate
• Previous supervisory experience
• Experience of Food Preparation for the relevant Client group

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
• Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and take into account the preferences of individual Clients.
• Liaise with the Home Manager when planning / costing menus to provide a balanced nutritious diet.
• Arrange / participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
• Maintain accurate records of food supplies and temperatures.
• Ensure stock rotation and check deliveries and stock values.
• Prepare Staff rota for Kitchen and interview new Staff Members with Home Manager as needed.
• Supervise Kitchen Staff in use of equipment and hygiene procedures.
• Conduct basic food hygiene training for Care Staff involved in handling and delivery of food.
• Attend mandatory training days/courses as required.
• Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in kitchen and dining areas.
• Ensure all crockery and equipment are cleaned and stored properly.
• Report illness or accidents to Home Manager promptly.
• Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.
• Adhere to Company policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality.
• Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned.
