Job summary

Urenco at Capenhurst is seeking a Principal Engineer - Control and Instrumentation (Design Authority) to lead a Design Authority team, ensure design standards, and drive safety-focused engineering across plant systems. You will guide senior engineers, align with regulatory and quality requirements, and contribute to ongoing capability development.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, proven leadership in complex projects, and a track record of delivering high-quality design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Control and Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent international license.
• Experience managing engineering teams for medium- to large-scale plant systems.
• Proven leadership in complex design and engineering projects.
• Experience leading a team of highly skilled experts.
• Track record delivering complex design packages meeting safety and quality standards.
• Strong standards and specifications governance.
• Experience supporting safety analysis and safety-in-design.

Responsibilities

• Provide line management and leadership to a Design Authority engineering team within your area of expertise.
• Promote high team performance that reflects Urenco’s values, culture and behaviours.
• Ensure consistency and alignment in plant design by maintaining Urenco’s standards and specifications.
• Champion a proactive safety culture and encourage learning-from-experience behaviours.
• Allocate engineering resources in agreement with the Group Design Authority Manager and internal stakeholders.
• Define and deliver training and development programmes to ensure SQEP.
• Anticipate business and technical needs for future demands.
• Support the Group Design Authority Manager in achieving objectives and budget.
• Develop standardised plant and facility technologies leveraging Urenco best practice.
