Job summary

Urenco is seeking a Principal Engineer - Control and Instrumentation (Design Authority) at Capenhurst to lead a C&I engineering team and uphold design standards across plant projects.

You will guide 6–10 engineers, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and drive continuous improvement through SQEP training and cross‑discipline collaboration. This role offers leadership opportunities within a global energy company with strong development support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Control and Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering.
• Professional engineering registration (CEng) or equivalent.
• Proven experience managing engineering teams for medium-large plant systems.
• Experience delivering design packages with governance and safety considerations.
• Strong track record of leading complex engineering projects.
• Ability to define and justify design solutions for safety analyses.

Responsibilities

• Provide line management to a Design Authority team (6–10 reports).
• Promote high team performance aligned with Urenco values.
• Ensure plant design consistency by maintaining standards and specs.
• Champion proactive safety culture and learning from experience.
• Allocate engineering resources with DFA Manager and stakeholders.
• Develop training and SQEP programs for staff.
• Anticipate future needs and emerging challenges.
• Support DFA Manager in objectives and budget.
• Define standardized plant technologies using best practice.
