Job description

We are seeking a Lead Building Surveyor to join our dynamic team. You can be located anywhere throughout the country but this role will involve frequent travel to all of our major sites including Southampton, Cardiff and the Humber so you must be comfortable with frequent travel. Reporting to the Group Head of Property, this is a rare opportunity to shape the future of our built environment across a diverse and complex estate.

About the Role

As Lead Building Surveyor, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering strategic change across ABP’s property portfolio. We are looking for somebody who has the strategic vision to oversee a multi site operation, has influence and gravitas to deal with both internal stakeholders and external surveyors.
You’ll be responsible for overseeing major surveying projects and ensuring our buildings meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the delivery of building surveying services across a multi-site estate.
  • Managing and delivering change programmes with a focus on cost- effectiveness and long-term value.
  • Analysing project costs, identifying efficiencies, and negotiating with contractors and stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Providing expert advice on building regulations, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-impact projects on time and within budget.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience in building surveying, ideally within a large, complex organisation.
  • A proven track record of delivering change and driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse costs and negotiate effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • MRICS or equivalent professional qualification is highly desirable.
