Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to lead a section of the Cellular Pathology laboratory at Cheltenham General Hospital. You will organise staffing, ensure efficient embedding, sectioning, staining and digital scanning, and oversee daily QC to meet turnaround times.

You will provide specialist advice, support problem solving, and drive improvements while maintaining UKAS accreditation and SOP compliance.

Qualifications

• HCPC Registration as Biomedical Scientist.
• MSc Biomedical Science.
• IBMS Specialist Diploma (Histology).
• Experience leading a team.
• Experience troubleshooting Cellular Pathology techniques; specialist knowledge of Cellular Pathology.
• Good communication skills.
• Good computer skills.
• Good organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the main laboratory section, overseeing embedding, microtomy, special stains and digital sections.
• Manage staffing and resources to ensure timely service and cancer targets are met; daily QC checks.
• Provide specialist advice to users of the department's services.
• Support maintenance of UKAS accreditation and assist in SOP/training/safety protocol reviews.
