Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Healthcare Scientist in Cellular Pathology, Band 5, for a maternity cover. You will be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with specialist knowledge in Cellular Pathology to support the department and provide cancer patient results promptly.

You may be required to work flexibly between 8am and 7pm with Saturday shifts; extended day cover to 7pm and weekend work may be needed.

Qualifications

• BSc(Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent required.
• HCPC Registration required.
• Specialist knowledge of Cellular Pathology essential.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Competent in Histological preparatory techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
• Use of own judgement and initiative.
• Demonstrated team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, analyse and interpret a range of specialist investigations.
• Participate in processing all samples received daily.
• Maintain turnaround times for patient samples.

Job summary

Specialist Healthcare Scientist in Cellular Pathology, Band 5

We are looking for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with specialist knowledge in Cellular Pathology to join our team to support the department during a period of maternity leave

You will be working with us to provide a service to cancer patients to ensure that they receive their results in a timely manner.

You will be prepared to work flexibly between the hours of 8am and 7pm and Saturday working may be required

Additional working pattern details: Extended day working is required to ensure cover until 7pm. Saturday working may be required

Main duties of the job

You will have HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist

You will work in all areas of the Histology Laboratory and be involved in provision of the technical service.

You will participate in provision of Biomedical Scientist cut-up as well as routine areas such as tissue sectioning and staining.

You will rotate through the specialist areas of the laboratory such as Immunocytochemistry and Molecular Pathology

You will be ensuring that the Department meets cancer targets and you will need to have experience of working within a team

Job responsibilities

The Specialist Healthcare Scientist in Cellular and Molecular Pathology acts in a specialised scientific role in the development and provision of a range of specialist tests for the diagnosis, monitoring and predictive profiling of patients with benign and malignant disorders.

They act in a specialised scientific role to co-ordinate, analyse and interpret a range of specialist investigations conducted from within and outside of the department

Part of a team responsible for the processing all the samples received each day, this includes performing a wide range of tests.

Help to maintain the turnaround times for all patient samples.

Assist in the participation in appropriate internal, regional, national and international quality control schemes relevant to the specialist service.

Participate in the development of the service to include the introduction of new techniques and pathways
