Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead the main section of the Cellular Pathology laboratory at Cheltenham General Hospital. You will organise staffing, embedding, sectioning and staining workflows to ensure timely turnaround times.

The role requires HCPC registration, an MSc in Biomedical Science, and leadership experience in Cellular Pathology; you will drive QC checks and support UKAS accreditation and SOP development.

Qualifications

• HCPC Registration as Biomedical Scientist.
• MSc Biomedical Science qualification.
• Management qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading a team in Cellular Pathology.

Responsibilities

• Lead the main laboratory section of embedding, microtomy, special stains and digital sections.
• Be responsible for the final step of quality checking prior to clinical reporting.
• Provide specialist advice to users of the department's services.
• Prioritise and manage staff and resources for day-to-day clinical needs.
• Provide support for maintenance of UKAS accreditation.
• Contribute to SOPs, training schedules and safety protocols.
