Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an experienced Stress Engineer to support an aerospace programme focused on the structural integrity and performance of landing gear systems and components. The role involves static and dynamic stress analysis, hand calculations and FEM, plus development of FE models using ANSYS, NASTRAN or ABAQUS.

This on-site Gloucester position requires collaboration with design, materials, manufacturing and test teams, producing substantiation and certification documents for safety-critical

Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace structural or stress analysis.
• Experience performing hand calculations and finite element analysis.
• Understanding of static strength, fatigue, structural integrity and dynamic loading.
• Proficient with major FEA packages (ANSYS/NASTRAN/ABAQUS).
• Experience analysing metallic aerospace structures and components.
• Ability to interpret drawings, load cases, material properties and test data.
• Experience producing stress reports and substantiation documentation.
• Knowledge of aerospace certification and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform static and dynamic stress analysis of landing gear structures and components.
• Carry out hand calculations and FEM to substantiate designs.
• Develop and refine finite element models using ANSYS, NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
• Correlate analytical and FEA predictions with test results and resolve discrepancies.
• Assess designs against FAR/CS and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing and test engineers.
• Produce stress reports, technical substantiation and certification documents.
• Support failure investigations and root-cause analysis.
