Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an experienced Stress Engineer to support an aerospace programme focused on landing gear systems and components. You will lead static and dynamic analyses, hand calculations and FEA, developing models with ANSYS, MSC NASTRAN or ABAQUS, and correlating results with physical tests in a safety-critical environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent military experience).
• Strong aerospace structural or stress analysis experience.
• Experience performing hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
• Good understanding of static strength, fatigue, structural integrity and dynamic loading.
• Practical experience with FEA packages: ANSYS, NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
• Experience analysing metallic aerospace structures and components.
• Ability to interpret drawings, load cases, material properties and test data.
• Experience producing stress reports and substantiation documentation.
• Understanding of aerospace certification and regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform static and dynamic stress analysis of landing gear structures and components.
• Conduct structural assessments for aerospace loading including landing, taxiing and fatigue environments.
• Carry out hand calculations and FEA to substantiate designs.
• Develop and refine finite element models using tools such as ANSYS, MSC NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
• Correlate analytical and FEA predictions against physical test results and resolve discrepancies.
• Assess designs against aerospace certification requirements and regulatory expectations.
• Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing and test engineers for weight optimisation.
• Produce stress reports, substantiation documentation and certification artefacts.
• Provide technical input throughout design and product lifecycle and support engineering reviews.
