Job summary

ALTEN LTD - UK is seeking an experienced Stress Engineer in Gloucester to support an aerospace programme focused on landing gear structural integrity. You’ll perform static/dynamic stress analyses, develop FEA models, and correlate with test results to ensure regulatory compliance.

Applicants should have a strong background in aerospace structural analysis, both hand calculations and FEA, and familiarity with certifications and FAR/CS guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace structural or stress analysis.
• Proficient in hand calculations and FEA.
• Understanding of static strength, fatigue, dynamic loading and certification expectations.

Responsibilities

• Perform static and dynamic stress analysis of landing gear structures and components.
• Conduct structural assessments for aerospace loading conditions including landing, taxiing and fatigue environments.
• Carry out hand calculations and finite element analysis to substantiate designs.
• Develop, refine and assess finite element models using ANSYS/NASTRAN/ABAQUS.
• Correlate analytical and FEA predictions with test results and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure designs meet aerospace certification requirements and regulatory expectations.
• Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing and test teams for structural optimisation.
• Produce stress reports, substantiation documents and certification material.
• Support failure investigations and root-cause analysis related to structural issues.
