Job summary

ALTEN in Derby is seeking a Stress Analysis Engineer to support aerospace components and rotating equipment, applying structural analysis and reporting findings to stakeholders. The role focuses on advanced analyses, design validation, and working within a highly technical environment.

You will collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams, utilize ANSYS, LS-DYNA and Abaqus, and contribute to critical assessments while ensuring compliance with project requirements and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in stress analysis, structural analysis, or impact analysis within an aerospace or automotive environment.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS for finite element analysis and structural assessments.
  • Experience using LS-DYNA for explicit dynamics, impact, or non-linear simulations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, design data, and technical specifications.
  • Strong technical reporting and problem-solving skills.
  • Typically 4-6 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with Abaqus is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of composite material analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stress and structural analysis on aerospace components and assemblies.
  • Conduct engine and rotating equipment modelling activities using industry-standard analysis tools.
  • Assess component performance under static, dynamic, and impact loading conditions.
  • Produce technical reports and present findings to engineering stakeholders.
  • Participate in engineering reviews and provide recommendations to support design decisions.
  • Ensure analysis activities are completed in accordance with project and industry requirements.
