Job summary

Longdean School is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to lead targeted KS3 catch-up interventions for Maths and English. The role spans 37 hours per week, with a fully resourced intervention classroom and a dedicated budget to keep materials up to date. Start date January 2027.

You will work closely with the KS3 Maths and English leads and the SEND team to ensure a joined-up approach, track progress, and adapt strategies based on evidence of impact.

Qualifications

• HLTA status (or working towards), with willingness to complete accreditation.
• Experience supporting KS3 students behind age-related expectations in Maths and/or English.
• Strong understanding of evidence-based catch-up and intervention strategies.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building across departments (Maths, English, SEND, pastoral).
• Passion for ensuring every student, including those with additional needs, gets support to succeed.
• Resilience, flexibility and a solutions-focused approach to gaps in confidence and attainment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver short-term, high-impact intervention strategies to close gaps in Maths and English for KS3 students behind peers.
• Work from a fully resourced intervention classroom with dedicated budget for up-to-date resources.
• Receive guidance from KS3 Maths and KS3 English leads to shape and quality-assure programmes.
• Collaborate with SEND team to ensure joined-up provision and no gaps between SEND and catch-up.
• Track student progress and adjust groups based on evidence of impact.
• Integrate into school life as part of a wider team of teachers, TAs and pastoral staff.
