Job summary

Step Teachers is recruiting a Teaching Assistant to support English and Maths in an 11–18 secondary school with a sixth form. The role is full-time and long-term with an immediate start, offering the chance to work with students across key stages and contribute to high standards of progression and wellbeing.

The ideal candidate will have strong literacy and numeracy, experience supporting young people, and the ability to foster positive relationships while safeguarding pupils’ welfare.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people is desirable
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills
• Confidence supporting English and Maths
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Responsibilities

• Support students in English and Maths lessons
• Work with small groups and individual pupils to reinforce learning
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons
• Help students develop confidence and independence in core subjects
• Provide targeted intervention support where required
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
