Job summary

Teach Now is seeking a warm, organised KS1 Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term temporary role in Enfield, North London. You will support the class teacher, deliver phonics practice and early-reading interventions, and help pupils develop literacy, numeracy and positive learning habits.

The successful candidate will have EYFS/KS1 experience, a basic understanding of systematic phonics, strong English, and a patient, nurturing approach.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in EYFS or KS1.
• A basic understanding of systematic synthetic phonics.
• Strong spoken English and clear communication.
• Patience, creativity and a nurturing approach.
• The ability to engage young children while maintaining clear expectations.
• Confidence supporting early literacy and numeracy.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality and professional conduct.
• The right to work in the UK.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Two satisfactory professional references.
• A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning, childcare or early years would be desirable. Experience with speech-and-language needs or programmes such as Read Write Inc. would also be useful.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the class teacher during lessons and activities.
• Delivering phonics practice and early-reading interventions.
• Listening to pupils read and recording their progress.
• Supporting early writing, handwriting and number work.
• Preparing practical resources and learning areas.
• Helping pupils follow routines and manage transitions.
• Providing additional support for children with SEND or communication needs.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, independence and cooperation.
• Supervising children safely during different parts of the school day.
• Sharing observations with the teacher and SENCO.
