Job summary

Academics in Birmingham are seeking a dedicated Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant to support learning in a primary school in Handsworth (B21). The role starts at the end of September 2026 and is full-time.

You will work alongside the class teacher to support pupils, create a positive classroom atmosphere, and provide tailored help for SEND pupils. Enhanced DBS on update service is required, with ongoing training as needed.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS (must be on the update service)
• Relevant qualifications or experience
• Willingness to complete relevant training continually when needed
• Confidence and flexibility in working with both Year 1 & Year 2 classes

Responsibilities

• Not only supporting pupils educational development but also managing and supporting the classroom alongside the designated teacher
• Creating a positive and engaging atmosphere in the classroom
• Providing tailored assistance for SEND pupils
• Monitoring students and reporting to designated teacher when needed
• De-escalating behavioural conflicts and recognising good behaviour in accordance with the schools policies
