Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Frankley Green, Birmingham, from September 2026. The role provides 1:1 support for KS1 pupils with Autism (ASD) to access learning and participate in classroom activities.

You will work alongside the class teacher, implementing personalised strategies and contributing to an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes confidence, communication and independence.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism (ASD) – essential.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support within a primary or specialist educational setting.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning strategies.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Patient, proactive, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for KS1 pupils with Autism (ASD).
  • Support pupils in re-engaging with classroom learning and daily routines.
  • Implement personalised strategies linked to EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans.
  • Promote communication, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions.
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom organisation throughout the day.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support academic and personal development.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
