Job summary

Veritas Education is seeking dedicated SEN Support Assistants to work 1:1 with KS1 pupils in mainstream primary schools, on-site in Wakefield and surrounding areas. Experience with special educational needs, autism or ADHD is welcome.

You will collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and support teams to implement routines, visual supports and inclusive strategies, helping children access learning and build confidence throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with special educational needs, ideally in KS1.
• Confidence working with Autism, ADHD, or communication needs.
• Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practice.
• Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with children.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

• 1:1 SEN support delivering personalised strategies to help the child engage and succeed.
• Implement routines, visual supports and behaviour plans.
• Support communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs.
• Adapt learning tasks to ensure accessibility and success.
• Encourage independence, resilience and positive relationships.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
• Provide feedback and observations to contribute to progress reviews.
