Job summary

Cygnet Victoria House is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for part-time hours (21 per week) to join a care-focused kitchen team. You will assist in preparing balanced meals, perform basic cooking duties, wash and store utensils, and help with stock ordering.

This maternity cover role runs until September 2026, with DBS check required. The position offers competitive pay at £12.60 per hour, support from a skilled team, and a range of staff benefits including pension and cycle-to-work schemes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the team in the providing balanced, appetising meals
• Perform basic food preparation, cooking tasks & other kitchen duties
• Wash utensils, dishes & make sure they are stored appropriately
• Sort, store & distribute ingredients, check deliveries and assist with stock ordering
• Maintain personal hygiene and ensure the kitchen is clean & hygienic
• Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures
• Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.

We are looking for an outstanding Kitchen Assistant who’s passionate about food and wants to make a difference.

You’ll be working part time 21 hours a week (including every other weekend) at Cygnet Victoria House.

This will be covering Maternity leave till September 2026.

Cygnet Victoria House is a 26 bed mental health inpatient service for men. The service, split across two wards, provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Your Day-to-Day…
