Job summary

Cygnet Elowen Hospital in Derbyshire is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support our catering team. You will work 40 hours per week over 10-hour shifts on a 7-day rota, helping to create balanced, appetising meals for adults in care while maintaining high kitchen standards.

The role requires a food hygiene certificate, catering experience, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude. You will be supported by expert supervision, access to pension and cycling to work schemes, and opportunities to

• Experienced in catering, preferably in care settings.
• Holder of a food hygiene certificate and strong personal hygiene standards.
• Enthusiastic, keen to learn and an active team member.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of balanced, appetising meals.
• Perform cooking tasks and other kitchen duties.
• Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas and dining room.
• Wash utensils, dishes and store them properly.
• Rotate stock and put away deliveries.
• Maintain personal hygiene to meet Cygnet standards and food hygiene regulations.
• Handle, maintain and store kitchen equipment per Cygnet procedures.
• Use chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

Cygnet Group are looking for an outstanding Kitchen Assistant who is passionate about food and wants to make a difference, to join our team at Cygnet Elowen Hospital.

You’ll be working 40 hours a week (10-hour shifts) across a 7-day rota at Cygnet Elowen Hospital, creating an excellent experience for the people in our care.

This service offers a safe and secure care pathway tailored for individuals with eating disorders, as well as those with complex personality disorders with disordered eating. With a dedicated team of specialists and a compassionate approach, Cygnet Elowen Hospital is designed to provide specialist support and treatment, fostering a positive recovery pathway in a nurturing environment.

Your day-to-day

• Assist in the preparation of balanced, appetising meals
• Perform cooking tasks & other kitchen duties
• Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas & dining room
• Wash utensils, dishes & make sure they are stored appropriately
• Rotate stock & put away all deliveries
• Maintain personal hygiene to comply with Cygnet standards and food hygiene regulations
• Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures
• Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations

• The holder of a food hygiene certificate, with good personal hygiene standards
• Enthusiastic, keen to learn & an active team member

• An excellent communicator able to liaise with people at all levels
• Diligent & take pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness
• Able to work on your own initiative, as part of a team & under supervision
