Job summary

Industrious Recruitment Limited seeks a proactive Junior IT Support Specialist to join our Milton Keynes client’s Informatics team. You will be the first point of contact for IT queries, assisting colleagues with hardware and software issues and helping maintain secure, efficient IT systems.

You will gain exposure to Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, peripherals and basic networking while working with experienced IT staff and external providers.

Qualifications

• Some IT support experience, ideally around one year.
• Basic understanding of PC hardware and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Windows 10/11 and Microsoft environments.
• Familiarity with Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
• Willingness to learn and support IT users.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line IT support to colleagues for hardware and software queries.
• Set up, configure and maintain PCs, laptops, printers and other IT equipment.
• Troubleshoot Windows, Office applications, logins and peripherals.
• Log and manage support requests via the IT Service Desk.
• Assist with onboarding and offboarding including password resets.
• Carry out routine system checks and daily reports.
• Support basic network and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Maintain IT asset records and support device deployment/return.
• Follow ISO 27001 security policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with IT team and external providers on complex issues.
• Document solutions and contribute to IT guidance.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and approachable Junior IT Support Specialist to join our clients Informatics team in Milton Keynes.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in IT who is looking to develop their technical skills within a supportive team environment. You'll be a first point of contact for IT queries, helping colleagues resolve everyday technical issues while supporting the smooth running, security and maintenance of the company's IT systems.

Working alongside experienced IT colleagues and external support providers, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of technologies, including Windows, Microsoft 365, hardware, networking and IT security.

We're keen to hear from candidates with some hands-on IT support experience who are enthusiastic, practical and keen to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first-line IT support to colleagues, responding to hardware, software and general IT queries.
• Set up, configure and maintain PCs, laptops, printers and other IT equipment.
• Troubleshoot common issues involving Windows, Microsoft Office, user accounts, logins, applications and peripherals.
• Log, update and manage support requests through the IT Service Desk, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
• Assist with user onboarding and offboarding, including account setup, password resets and access permissions.
• Carry out routine system checks, monitor potential issues and complete daily reports.
• Support basic network and connectivity troubleshooting, including Wi-Fi and network devices.
• Help maintain IT asset records and support the deployment and return of company equipment.
• Follow IT security policies and procedures, contributing to the organisation's ISO 27001 compliance.
• Work with the wider IT team and external providers to escalated more complex issues and support IT projects.
• Document solutions and contribute to internal IT guidance and support materials.

About You

We're looking for someone who is technically curious, enjoys solving problems and takes pride in helping others.

You'll ideally have:

• Some experience in an IT Support, Service Desk, Desktop Support or similar role, ideally around one year.
• A basic understanding of PC and laptop hardware, including setup, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience or exposure to Windows 10/11 and Microsoft environments.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
• An understanding of common IT issues, including login problems, printing, software and connectivity.
• Good communication skills and a friendly, patient approach to supporting users.
• A logical approach to problem-solving and the confidence to investigate issues before escalating them.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage and update support tickets accurately.
• A willingness to learn, develop new skills and work as part of an established IT team.

Desirable Skills

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

• Exposure to Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID or Intune.
• Experience with IT Service Desk or ticketing systems.
• Basic knowledge of networking, including LAN, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP.
• An understanding of IT security, data protection and safe computing practices.
• Exposure to Linux environments or IT asset management.
• An IT-related qualification, apprenticeship or certification, such as CompTIA A+.
