Job summary

Amentum’s Subsurface Solutions team in the Earth and Environmental Operations Area is seeking a motivated Junior Geophysicist. You’ll bridge data collection with engineering solutions, supporting environmental, defence and energy projects across the UK.

This hybrid role combines field data acquisition, advanced processing and technical reporting, with opportunities to develop bid preparation, project planning and cross-disciplinary collaboration while growing your expertise.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geophysics, Geology, or Civil Engineering (MSc preferred).
• 2+ years in a commercial engineering or environmental geophysics environment.
• Proficiency in GIS and geophysical processing software.
• Willingness to travel to remote sites in UK and overseas; outdoor work.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Strong written and verbal communication, tailoring outputs to stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support geophysical surveys using in-house equipment (ERI, GPR, EM, HVSR).
• Design survey programmes to identify subsurface risks and integrate with geotechnical and geoenvironmental teams.
• Support design of third party onshore surveys like MASW, 2D seismic, wireline and cross-hole.
• Support design of third party near-shore marine surveys (SBP, Magnetometer, 2D seismic) with field supervision.
• Process field data into models using Res2DInv, Geolitix.
• Interpret 2D/3D seismic datasets and map faults using integrated data.
• Understand client requirements and how to meet them.
• Technical reporting with high-quality visuals and recommendations.
• Maintain safety and logistics on-site.
