Job description

Job purpose:

To support LSTC Group’s Engineering, Planning, Asset Inspection and Survey departments with all aspects of GIS and FME related project and data management work.

To support the GIS Lead with LSTC’s fleet of GIS and Esri specific software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, mobile applications, web applications, etc) and assist all LSTC Group staff and external clients with GIS requests.

To help develop and maintain GIS and FME workflows and capabilities deployed within LSTC.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • GIS administration and development (core)
    • Assist the GIS Lead in the development and maintenance of the company’s GIS and FME capabilities, tools and services.
    • Help the GIS Lead provide technical support to LSTC users or clients regarding the usage or operation of GIS applications or data.
    • Help with the administration of LSTC Groups Esri’s ArcGIS Online platforms and all associated licenses.
    • Help to monitor GIS data shared to ArcGIS Online ensuring correct procedures are followed and the associated credit use.
    • Keeping up to date with latest Esri Living Atlas and publicly available statutory stakeholder data layers that are the baseline for various projects.
    • Maintaining up to date knowledge of the GIS technology including any Esri software developments.
    • Input into the continued development of LSTC Group workflows and procedures, specifically relating to the use of Esri GIS.
  • GIS project delivery
    • Assist in the co-ordination and completion of key project deliverables, including liaising with other LSTC Group departments and other external organisations.
    • Support on Esri GIS production deliverables including ArcGIS Pro Maps and Plans; ArcGIS Online Maps, Web Applications and Field Applications.
    • Preparation and delivery of Esri ArcGIS Online Maps, Web Applications, Field Maps, Quick Capture and Survey 123 question sets on project assigned to.
    • Conversions of CAD/GIS Datasets to support the LSTC Group Engineering, Planning and Survey Teams.
    • Document Control on a project-by-project and client basis (LSTC Group Servers and ESRI Online).
    • Support the GIS lead on Geo-processing of large datasets on projects where required.
    • Attend meetings, workshops and site visits as and when required, leading/chairing them under supervision of the planning or engineering lead or project manager.
  • Quality Systems, Health & Safety and People Management
    • Ensure all QA environmental and Safety Documentation is prepared and issued in accordance with company (and client) procedures.
    • Input into Company and Planning procedures and ensure all quality, environmental and safety documentation is prepared in accordance with company procedures.
  • General
    • You may also have to work on other works related to other LSTC departments.
    • Carry out reasonable duties as directed by the Directors.
    • Willing to work at other LSTC or Client Offices as required.
    • Contribute within the Company to our Health and Safety culture.
    • Deliver exceptional customer service to all customers.
    • Build an outstanding working relationship with LSTC teams and Clients.
    • Core activities take place in an office environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualifications
    • Minimum bachelor’s degree in relevant subject such as Geographical Information Systems, Geography or Engineering (or similar).
    • A plus: Member of or working towards membership in a relevant Professional Institution.
  • Experience
    • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and concepts.
    • Familiarity and exposure to GIS software, in particular the Esri ArcGIS platform.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience working in a relevant GIS related transmission, distribution, or project delivery commercial environment would be beneficial.
    • Experience working with other GIS related software experience such as QGIS, FME, Python or CAD would be beneficial.
    • A plus: OHL, cable, or substation design experience.
    • A plus: professional chartership.
