About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused IT Support Engineer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Based onsite in Cambridge, you will provide hands‑on technical support to end users, ensuring IT systems, hardware, software, and peripheral devices operate efficiently within a business-critical environment.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with internal IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders, supporting day-to-day operations while contributing to ongoing IT projects and infrastructure improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, operating system, and peripheral issues.
- Install, configure, maintain, and support desktop and laptop environments.
- Perform routine maintenance, software updates, patching, and lifecycle management activities.
- Support hardware deployments, refresh programmes, device onboarding, and office moves/adds/changes.
- Assist with lab computer connectivity and collaborate with wider IT, Networking, Security, and Lab IT teams.
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and escalations within agreed SLAs.
- Maintain accurate asset management records, inventory audits, and CMDB updates.
- Support local and global IT projects as required.
- Deliver end-user training and guidance on approved technologies and IT best practices.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and support records.
- Ensure compliance with security, change management, and operational standards.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in an IT Support, Service Desk, Desktop Support, or End User Support role.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Experience supporting desktop, laptop, mobile, and collaboration technologies.
- Familiarity with ITSM/ticketing systems and working within SLA-driven environments.
- Knowledge of asset management and device lifecycle processes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently onsite.
- Experience supporting laboratory or highly regulated environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
