Role Overview

The Internal Communications Lead is a pivotal strategic role responsible for shaping and delivering Brooks Macdonald’s internal communications agenda. Acting as a trusted adviser to the Executive Committee and senior leadership team, the role ensures colleagues understand the firm’s strategy, priorities, performance, culture and organisational direction.

This position is focused on developing and executing communication strategies that support business objectives, organisational change, employee understanding and engagement. The role plays a critical part in helping leaders communicate effectively through periods of transformation, growth and business change, ensuring messaging is clear, consistent and aligned across the organisation.

Whilst the role oversees the planning and delivery of internal communications campaigns and content, it is fundamentally a strategic communications position rather than a content creation role. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time partnering with senior stakeholders, shaping communication approaches, advising leaders and driving communication outcomes that support organisational success.

The role works across all areas of the business, collaborating closely with Executive Committee members, HR, Operations and the wider Marketing & Communications team to ensure colleagues are informed, connected and aligned with Brooks Macdonald’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive internal communications strategy aligned to Brooks Macdonald’s corporate objectives, business priorities and cultural ambitions.
  • Establish a clear and compelling internal narrative that helps colleagues understand the firm’s direction, performance and strategic priorities.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for internal communications, providing strategic counsel and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications activity, identifying opportunities to improve organisational understanding, engagement and alignment.
Executive & Leadership Communications
  • Partner closely with the CEO, Executive Committee and senior leaders to develop impactful communication strategies and plans.
  • Provide communications coaching and guidance to senior stakeholders to enhance leadership visibility and effectiveness.
  • Support the development of key leadership communications including strategic updates, organisational announcements, business performance communications and major corporate initiatives.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across leadership teams and business functions.
Change & Transformation Communications
  • Lead communication strategies for organisational change, transformation programmes, acquisitions, restructures and strategic business initiatives.
  • Develop communication and engagement plans that support successful implementation and adoption of change.
  • Anticipate communication risks and provide proactive recommendations to mitigate potential employee concerns and misunderstandings.
  • Ensure colleagues understand not only what is changing, but why it matters and how it supports broader business objectives.
Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation to understand communication needs and business priorities.
  • Partner with HR, Operations, Risk, Compliance and other business functions to deliver coordinated and effective communications.
  • Influence and challenge constructively where required to ensure communication approaches are aligned with best practice and business needs.
  • Collaborate with the wider Marketing & Communications team to ensure alignment between internal and external communications activities.
Channel & Communications Governance
  • Develop and oversee the internal communications framework, channels and governance processes.
  • Manage the internal communications editorial strategy and annual communications calendar.
  • Ensure communication channels remain relevant, effective and aligned to employee needs.
  • Establish measurement frameworks, reporting and insights to assess communication effectiveness and inform future activity.
Campaign Oversight
  • Oversee the development and delivery of internal communication campaigns that support strategic business objectives.
  • Ensure content, events and communications activities align to agreed messaging frameworks and communication outcomes.
  • Coordinate internal communication resources and contributors to ensure high-quality, timely delivery.
  • Maintain oversight of communication execution whilst retaining strategic accountability for outcomes.
Regulatory & Conduct Responsibilities
  • Perform the role in accordance with the expected behaviours outlined in the FCA Conduct Rules and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Significant experience in internal communications, corporate communications or change communications within a complex organisation.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing communication strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience partnering with Executive Committee members, Board-level stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Strong understanding of organisational change, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications planning.
  • Excellent influencing, relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities with the ability to tailor messaging for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrable experience advising leaders on communication strategy and organisational messaging.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience measuring communication effectiveness.
  • Ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced, evolving and highly regulated environment.
Desirable
  • Experience within financial services, wealth management or another regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting communications within a listed or FTSE organisation.
  • Familiarity with communication and employee engagement technologies and platforms.

We value different ways of working and actively promote flexible working across our business. Collaboration is important to us as a firm, with employees required to be in the office 3 days a week, and each team having a core in-office day per week.

We’re committed to promoting equal employment opportunities and positively encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of race, religion or belief, sexuality, age, disability, gender, gender identity, marital status or pregnancy and maternity.
