Job description

Are you interested in working for a company that leads health and safety from the top, where you can put your own stamp on safety and make a positive impact? Do they expect their senior leadership team to stay engaged with operational work as well as lead strategy and direction? If so, this role could be for you!

We are currently recruiting for an interim HSE Manager to oversee UK sites on behalf of a large food manufacturing business, while they recruit a permanent counterpart. You will be the most senior HSE professional in the UK, heading up the centralised function with responsibility for 7 sites and a headcount of just over 400 employees. You will coach and mentor one direct report, supporting their development. Your responsibilities include creating and driving the Health and Safety strategy, communicating it effectively at all levels, and remaining a hands-on, visible leader who leads by example, brings a positive and energetic approach, and empowers the sites.

The ideal candidate will be able to commute to Northamptonshire, where 3 of the 7 sites are located, and be willing to travel approximately 4 days a week, particularly to a site in the North West.

The role will be 80% HSE and 20% Environmental; as environmental and sustainability issues grow in importance, this aspect of the role is expected to increase.

What we are looking for:

1. Someone confident in an operational, hands-on capacity who is willing to 'roll up their sleeves.'
2. You must be able to engage, gain buy-in, influence, and communicate the HSEQ message effectively to the senior leadership team. Credibility across all levels is essential.
3. NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) level qualification.
4. Experience in FMCG is desirable, but wider regulated manufacturing experience will also be considered.
5. Knowledge of environmental sustainability is preferred.
6. Prior management experience across multiple sites in a similar role.
7. Residency or proximity to Corby.

The day rate is £500 per day (DOE). This is a 3-month initial contract, which may be extended.
