Job summary

Inspire Learning is seeking a Specialist SEN Support Assistant to work with students aged 11-19 in a well-established secondary and post-16 SEN provision in Salford.

You will support learning, build confidence and life skills inside and outside the classroom alongside teachers, therapists and support staff. A patient and resilient approach is essential.

Experience with SEN/SEMH is desirable; Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people with SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs is desirable.
  • Backgrounds in education, care, support work, youth work, health care, or psychology are welcomed.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and promote positive outcomes.
  • Support students with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage independence, personal development, and life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
