Job summary

Teaching Vacancies is seeking a committed learning support assistant to work with students with SEND. You will support individual students and groups, ensuring safety and access to learning activities, while collaborating with teachers and the SENCO to implement targeted strategies.

You will help develop resources, monitor progress, and provide feedback to students and parents. This role involves supervising on trips and promoting inclusive learning within a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting students with SEND
  • Ability to work with a range of learning needs
  • Ability to support students in small groups and 1:1 settings
  • Experience documenting progress and communicating with parents
  • Ability to work in collaboration with teachers and SENCO

Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the needs of students with additional needs
  • Provide support for students to access learning activities and ensure safety and welfare
  • Identify and implement strategies to support learning in various ways with the class teacher/SENCO
  • Use small group/1:1 withdrawal as appropriate
  • Establish excellent relationships with students to promote inclusion
  • Provide feedback to students and parents about progress
  • Attend trips/visits and supervise groups of students
  • Record notes for parents in planners to aid learning and transition
  • Be active in class and a visible member of staff
  • Assist the class teacher in developing resources and monitor progress
  • Provide regular feedback on student progress to the teacher
  • Contribute to reviews of progress as a key worker for named students
  • Promote good behaviour in line with school policy
  • Maintain constructive relationships with parents
  • Support department resource creation and display
  • Advise on impact of strategies within SEN area
  • Communicate with staff to share best practices
  • Attend department meetings and training
  • Become familiar with content up to GCSE
  • Undertake intervention programmes as needed
  • Assist with resource preparation in the department
  • Support organisation of students to capture key messages (e.g. ILT)
  • Remain familiar with GCSE content across subjects
