Job summary

Reeson Education is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for opportunities across Portsmouth, supporting pupils with additional needs in mainstream primary schools and specialist settings.

You will work 1:1 or with small groups, align with EHCP targets, reinforce communication, and help pupils access learning with patience and flexibility. This role offers full-time, long-term and flexible assignments with ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Previous SEND experience is useful, although candidates with transferable experience from childcare, youth work, care, mentoring or similar environments may also be considered.
• The right SEN Teaching Assistant will be comfortable following professional guidance, adapting their approach to individual pupils and maintaining clear safeguarding expectations.
• A calm, observant and consistent approach is important.

Responsibilities

• Help pupils access differentiated classroom activities.
• Reinforce communication and interaction strategies.
• Support pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs or learning difficulties where relevant.
• Follow EHCP targets and individual support plans.
• Help pupils manage transitions and classroom routines.
• Support emotional regulation using agreed strategies.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence rather than completing tasks for them.
• Share useful observations with teachers and SEN staff.
