BT Group in London is seeking an Infrastructure Engineering Specialist for the Remote Site Infra team. The role requires on-site presence in London and DV security clearance, with an allowance while clearance is held.

You will deliver high-level designs, maintain infrastructure components, and collaborate across security, engineering and applications teams to implement a secure product roadmap.

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

About the role

Engineering is a large multi-disciplined ‘professional services’ engineering practice. The team is organised in key customer focused capabilities which each have sub-capability areas comprising single or multiple engineering delivery projects.

The purpose of this role is to be technically proficient in an Engineering profession and to deliver work packages on a delivery project

This job role is based in London. Due to security requirements, this role requires you to be located on site during your working hours. Mon-Fri 37.5. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

What you’ll be doing

1. Manages the implementation of high-level designs for stable network and infrastructure environments that meet the needs of BT, are shared with partners, and are compliant with current security, privacy, and audit requirements


2. Leads the maintenance of IT Infrastructure components, tools or locations and executes the designs on services (e.g., network, security, storage, compute), which are to be produced in line with design standards


3. Provides advanced technical knowledge and expertise where needed to support managers, principals or technical experts to resolve complex issues


4. Leads the collaboration with stakeholders across application development, enterprise architecture, infrastructure and cyber security teams to implement an effective product roadmap


5. Leads the day-to-day support for internal tools and system health, as well as infrastructure implemented for all projects and managing customer support contracts

Essential Skills / Experience

Technical Skills

Experience of working with some of the following technologies or similar:

• VMWare / Virtualisation experience including ESX, VCentre, vCF


• Windows / Linux / Mac Server / system management experience


• Containers / Kubernetes / VKS


• NSX V&T


• Networking experience


• Storage management


• Experience with different scripting languages, such as PowerShell, Bash, Python or Java.


• Automated system build, using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Foreman, Kickstart (including PXE) and Microsoft Deployment tool kits. IaC, infrastructure automation and orchestration (ideally on VMWare)

• Creatively applies a wide range of technical and management principles.


• Performs highly complex work activities covering technical, financial and quality aspects.
