Job summary

Starling Bank is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to build and support infrastructure spanning physical data centres and cloud estates (AWS and GCP). The role focuses on security, automation, and reliable delivery within a fast-paced fintech environment.

You will work with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable infrastructure, implement patterns and tooling, and help maintain compliant, resilient systems across Starling's UK offices and cloud estates.

Qualifications

• Strong background in data centre network topologies, BGP routing and VRF configuration for secure traffic isolation.
• Experience with firewalls and Linux administration.
• Experience or awareness of Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure provisioning tools.
• System architecture and design.
• Experience with modern development practices and Python/Golang or scripting languages like bash.
• Experience in building and maintaining containers.

Responsibilities

• Working with delivery teams to translate business requirements into technical implementations.
• Make changes to critical physical infrastructure that supports the bank.
• Design and build patterns and frameworks for use by other engineering teams.
• Introduce automation to reduce toil and improve reliability.
• Take ownership of projects and ensure timely delivery.
• Diagnose system and network failures under pressure.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and immutable infrastructure.
• Keep up with new technologies and industry changes.
• Collaborate with Security and Developer Experience teams.
