Arup is offering an Industrial Placement for an Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer in Energy, Water & Resources based in Cardiff. You will work on real projects from day one, designing mechanical elements for water facilities and pumping stations, while learning from senior professionals and building your network for graduation.

The role expands into energy-related areas such as renewables and decarbonisation.

In This Role You Will

• Design and deliver mechanical elements of water and wastewater treatment and pumping projects.
• Support frameworks and projects for clients such as Welsh Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent.
• Work alongside Electrical and ICA (Instrumentation, Control and Automation) engineers to deliver integrated MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) solutions
• Provide design leadership, technical assurance, equipment specification, multidisciplinary coordination and support to Design Managers and Project Managers.

The team is looking to expand beyond its traditional water focus into energy-related work.

Areas highlighted in team strategy documents include renewables, hydrogen, hydropower, heat networks, energy storage and decarbonisation projects.

• Assist with the design of water and wastewater treatment works.
• Support the design of pumping stations, pipework systems, reservoirs and flood defence assets.
• Carry out engineering calculations such as pump sizing, hydraulic assessments and equipment selection.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules.
• Support production of design documentation through concept, outline and detailed design stages
