Arup is offering an Industrial Placement for an Infrastructure Electrical Engineer in Energy, Water & Resources, based in Cardiff or Birmingham. You will work on real projects from day one, learning from experienced professionals and building your professional network for graduation.

The role covers designing electrical systems for water treatment, supporting pumping stations and water networks, and delivering instrumentation and automation solutions under senior guidance.

  • Produce power distribution, motor control, cable, lighting and earthing designs and deliver instrumentation, control and automation solutions with electrical design.
  • Work with ICA specialists to ensure treatment processes and pumping systems can be operated, monitored and controlled safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborates with mechanical, process, civil, structural and BIM teams.
  • Support projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, installation and commissioning.

On this 10–12-month Internship you'll work alongside skilledprofessionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity. There will be regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.

In this role you wil:

  • Design electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Support pumping stations, reservoirs, flood resilience assets and water transmission schemes.
  • Produce power distribution, motor control, cable, lighting and earthing designs and delivers instrumentation, control and automation solutions alongside electrical design.
  • Work with ICA specialists to ensure treatment processes and pumping systems can be operated, monitored and controlled safely and efficiently
  • Collaborates with mechanical, process, civil, structural and BIM teams.
  • Support projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, installation and commissioning .

The team is looking to expand beyond its traditional water focus into energy-related work.

Areas highlighted in team strategy documents include renewables, hydrogen, hydropower, heat networks, energy storage and decarbonisation projects

  • Assist with the design of electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Support power distribution, motor control centres (MCCs), cable systems, earthing and lighting designs.
  • Carry out electrical calculations and equipment selection under the guidance of senior engineers and support the specification and integration of instrumentation and control systems while producing technical reports, calculations, specifications and schedules.
  • Support the development and review of electrical drawings and design documentation.
  • Contribute to design packages from concept through to detailed design

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
