Arup is seeking a Graduate Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer to join the Energy, Water & Resources team in the UK. You will work on mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment, pumping projects, and energy-related initiatives, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and gaining formal training to support professional growth.

You will undertake designs, calculations, 3D models, and equipment specifications while engaging in site visits and project workshops.

Qualifications

  • Masters level degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related subject such as Energy or Nuclear; 2:1 minimum.
  • Genuine interest in solving problems that affect daily life.
  • Keen to deliver mechanical designs for infrastructure and industrial installations as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to designs and calculations for MEICA and water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Produce technical reports and build 3D models.
  • Specify mechanical equipment and support multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings to support design managers and project managers.

The Opportunity

Our mechanical infrastructure team designs and delivers mechanical elements of water and wastewater treatment and pumping projects, supports frameworks and projects for clients such as Welsh Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent. We work alongside Electrical and ICA engineers to deliver integrated MEICA solutions and provide design leadership, technical assurance, equipment specification, multidisciplinary coordination and support to design Managers and Project Manager.

Our graduates use mechanical engineering principles to solve problems that affect all our lives, such as providing energy, managing waste or treating water. You will work on real projects, designing and learning from experts alongside formal training to support you as you grow into your career. Typical day to day tasks may include designs and calculations, technical reports, building 3D models, mechanical equipment specification, site visits, and a variety of project meetings and workshops.

As you discover more of your own abilities andinterests,we work with you to increase your role and expand your capabilities.We encourage our staff to work towards a professional qualification with the IMechE, but throughout your time at Arup, you will always be learning, with support and encouragement from our diverse multidisciplinary teams.

The team is looking to expand beyond its traditional water focus into energy-related work. Areas highlighted in team strategy documents include renewables, hydrogen, hydropower, heat networks, energy storage and decarbonisation projects

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • Masters level degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related subject such as Energy or Nuclear but would also consider those with a Bachelors degree. Minimum 2:1.
  • A genuine interest in solving problems that affect the way we live
  • Keen to deliver mechanical designs for infrastructure and industrial installations as part of multidisciplinary teams
  • Degree accreditation by the IMechE is preferred, other institutions would be considered.

  • Full working rights in the country of application
  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
