Job summary

Protocol Education are recruiting a Special Needs Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Southend-on-Sea, supporting children and young people with a range of complex needs, including SLD, PMLD, Autism and physical disabilities.

You’ll assist pupils 1:1 and in small groups, help them access learning, develop communication and independence, and provide personal care where required. You’ll work with teachers, therapists and other staff to build confidence and celebrate progress.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in Maths and English is required.
• Experience in SEND, education, care or residential settings is useful but not essential.
• Reliable, patient and comfortable providing hands-on support to pupils with complex needs.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
• Help pupils access learning with SLD, PMLD and complex physical needs.
• Support pupils with communication, interaction and engagement.
• Encourage independence and the development of everyday life skills.
• Provide personal care and physical support where required.
• Support pupils who may use wheelchairs, communication aids or other equipment.
• Work alongside teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals.
• Build genuine relationships with pupils and celebrate the small wins.
