Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a Special Needs Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Southend-on-Sea. You will support pupils with a range of needs to access education, communicate, and develop independence.

The role focuses on personalised 1:1 and small-group support in a busy school setting. You don't necessarily need years of experience; the right attitude, patience, reliability and willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or equivalent is required.
• Candidates with childcare or health and social care related qualifications have an advantage.
• No specific teaching experience required, attitude and willingness to learn matter most.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups throughout the school day
• Helping children with SLD, PMLD and complex physical needs access learning
• Supporting pupils with communication, interaction and engagement
• Encouraging independence and everyday life skills
• Providing personal care and physical support where required
• Supporting pupils who may use wheelchairs or assistive tech
• Working with teachers, therapists and other professionals
• Building genuine relationships and celebrating small wins
